Since I was laid off from my executive job a year ago, I’ve been on a mission to live a simpler, more frugal life. I’ve found inspiration and education in many of the popular FIRE blogs: Frugalwoods, Mr Money Mustache, Retire by Forty, to name a few. I love these bloggers and eagerly devour every article they publish.
But there are times where it seems to me like their uber-frugal lifestyle is still a little outside of my reach. Even after a year, I haven’t been able to stop eating out or give up the Starbucks completely. I still want my 6-year old son to attend some after-school enrichment classes, like swimming and art. I still love traveling, especially international travelling (read: $$$) and feel like it’s a part of who I am.
It’s funny, I didn’t grow up with a lot of money. I was raised by a single mom who made ends meet by living frugally. It’s only after I became a working adult, and earning my own money that lifestyle inflation happened. I wonder – is it possible to get back my roots without feeling like I’m sacrificing too much? Is it possible for someone like me to live a simpler, more frugal life? What does that even look like? So, this is my journey – all the ups and downs (lots of these!) with hopefully a sprinkle of wisdom here and there. Please join me.
